January 2007 Blog Posts
I haven't been paying much attention to the news lately but I had heard about the sextuplets that were born recently into a Jehovah's Witness family in a BC hospital. I was saddened to hear the other day that two of the babies had died. I know its not uncommon for one or more babies in a multiple birth to not survive but that does not make it any easier.
Today Charmaine sent me a news article about how the BC Government has stepped in and temporarily removed three of the four remaining babies
I had the misfortune of reading Krista's blog today and got tagged! Like Krista, if you have a blog I expect you to do this too and then post a link in the comments so that I can read yours.
Without further ado, here are my names...
Its unbelievable to me that people actually think we evolved. The whole process of Shyloh's birth was a little surreal and the week before was no picnic so it wasn't until a couple days later when I was holding him in the hospital that I realized what an incredible thing life is. It was his feet that made believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was created, that God designed him (and all life). How anyone could attribute to chance something so precious as his little baby toes is beyond my und
Uncle Braden, Auntie Jennifer and cousin Doreen were able to come over and meet Shyloh for the very first time today. I don't think I've seen Braden hold a baby since first propped him up on the couch with Katie! Oh, I know he's held his niece and nephews, but I wasn't around to see that. Hey Braden, you look good holding a baby! (Wink wink!)
I know I've posted lots of pictures already, but today was the first time we got out the lights and turned up the heat. Shyloh was amazingly cooperative and Charmaine and I wore out before he did. There will be many more photo shoots over the years but I know from taking pictures of Other People's Kids that it gets a lot harder once they start moving around on their own so I'm going to capture every moment I can.
Encountered any pot holes lately? Or maybe some nasty frost heaves? How about white lines over roots that have grown into the road? Well you haven't got anything to complain about compared to these guys.
We were lying in bed last night discussing Shyloh and how we nearly missed out on being parents. For so many years we said we'd be foster parents and just love other people's children. We had kind of thought that maybe someday we would consider adopting but for the most part we were pretty much against having children of our own. We got married thinking that way and neither of us were expecting the other to change their mind.
We took Shyloh to the doctor again today for a follow up visit. It turns out that he's gaining weight like crazy and is now up to 9lb 13oz! The doctor said we should consider feeding him on a regular schedule during the day and then demand feeds only during the night. This is welcome news for both Charmaine and I. Charmaine hasn't complained once about all the night time feeds but she was definitely starting to run low on sleep.
The health nurse from Interior Health stopped by yesterday to meet Shyloh, weigh him and answer any questions we had. As of yesterday he had gained back all but one ounce of his birth weight which is pretty cool. The nurse suggested that most babies gain 15-30g (1/2oz to 1oz) per day at this stage and take a couple weeks to regain their birth weight. Shyloh has been gaining close to 100g (3oz) per day. We're not concerned as its really just one more indicator that he was genuinely overdue.
Shyloh started his first day at home with breakfast in bed and then slept next to Dad's desk so Mom could get a couple more hours of sleep. He then played video games with Dad for awhile and then had his first bath. After that he went shopping to Walmart but due to an incident with a hat he tired himself out and slept through the whole experience. We won't try that hat again for awhile! (Incidentally, he likes iPods and hopes to get the black 80Gb iPod Video for himself sometime soon so he can p
Dr. Steinruck (one of the doctors that delivered Shyloh) came to have another look today and said we could take him home. Shyloh gained about 100g overnight which surprised the nurses and made Charmaine feel pretty good. He had only lost about 8% which isn't serious but to start gaining back so soon after Charmaine's milk came in is a good sign.
Mom and Shyloh ar doing great. We were hoping that I could bring them home today but the doctor wants to keep them for one more day. That ended up being a good thing because I got a nasty stomach flu overnight and am not able to eat anything. I'm just praying that I haven't passed it onto anyone else.
He's got ten little fingers and ten little toes and a little bit of corn starch on the end of his nose.
Shyloh Zachary Wilson was born at 7:34 PM on January 15th in Kelowna General Hospital. He's a healthy baby boy at 9lbs 8oz and 20" long. Both he and Mom are doing well. Both our GP and the OB saw Charmaine today and suggested that since Shyloh's head had not yet engaged it was unlikely that waiting any longer would change anything. We agreed at that point to go ahead with the cesarean section. It took some time to work us into the schedule but things got going around 7:00 PM or so. ....
Seven months ago we thought today (Jan 14) was the official due date. The ultrasound at the end of August disagreed with our calendar dates which is how we ended up with January 2nd as a due date. Well, its the 14th and still no baby yet. From this point forward the baby is officially overdue by any data we care to look at. Charmaine has been a real trooper and as hard as these last weeks have been for her she has not been complaining or whining. If anything, we're more in love with each ot
Well what a roller coaster!! We have seen many doctors, heard lots of information and had to make decisions which we don't know how to make… and we have decided to keep waiting for at least a few more days. We are feeling more confident in waiting now that we have found a doctor who has treated us as a unique case and listened to us. Being assessed by him has been a real blessing and after meeting with him we now understand what we are facing and what each option entails. It is nice that both Do
They did the NST this morning and the GP consulted with the OB-GYN. The OB-GYN is real anal though and isn't willing to induce her yet because her original due date was January 14th and he's not convinced that she is overdue. He is concerned though about her blood pressure (which was elevated this morning) and the size of the baby. They decided to admit Charmaine and run a bunch more tests, including another ultrasound. That caught us a bit off guard. Charmaine has been feeling fine and the resu
We've both been wandering aimlessly around the house for a few hours trying not to think about tomorrow but neither of us can help thinking about what the day will hold. Of course nothing is for sure so some of the wondering is whether or not anything will even happen. We're running out of things to do though if it doesn't... We've rearranged our room to make room for the baby (don't worry... only for a few weeks) and Charmaine got started with some minor kid-proofing, not that we'll really n
We just got back from the doctor's office. Charmaine was pretty sure nothing had changed since Tuesday and the doctor confirmed it today. We talked more about what this means and the doctor put it this way: "It's like trying to fit a beach ball through a mouse hole." He then smiled, shrugged his shoulders and said "but we need to keep an open mind."
Charmaine sent me the perfect devotional for us today:
Our Daily Bread: The Waiting
Waiting for God’s promises to be fulfilled is part of trusting Him. No matter how long the delay, we must wait for Him. As the writer of Hebrews reminds us, "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful." (Heb. 10:23).
God is faithful. He has brought us safely this far and He will see us through until the end of our days, and the days of our children.
We need to take a few minutes and give you all an update on how things are going with the pregnancy.
As many of you know, today is the actual due date of the baby. So far things have gone very well and both Charmaine and the baby are healthy.
Today though, at her weekly doctor appointment, Charmaine was given some bad news. The baby's head has not dropped into the birth canal and the doctor feels that this is likely because its head is too big to fit. Although its still mostly intuition an
