Just kidding!
They did the NST this morning and the GP consulted with the OB-GYN. The OB-GYN is real anal though and isn't willing to induce her yet because her original due date was January 14th and he's not convinced that she is overdue. He is concerned though about her blood pressure (which was elevated this morning) and the size of the baby. They decided to admit Charmaine and run a bunch more tests, including another ultrasound. That caught us a bit off guard. Charmaine has been feeling fine and the results of the NST, according to a nurse, were great so we're not really sure what's going on. We asked if we could at least go wander around but the nurse says she's on bed rest.
Anyway, the ultrasound shows that the baby is between 9-11 pounds which is on track with what the GP had said last week. The OB-GYN hasn't seen Charmaine since this morning so once he's got all the test results and the ultrasound hopefully he'll be more forthcoming with information. He is of the firm belief that natural is better and we don't disagree, we're just tired of waiting. And waiting in the hospital is even less fun than waiting at home.
I'm on the way out the door now to go back to the hospital and meet with the OB-GYN again.
Update: 9:30PM
We met with the OB-GYN and this time he took time to explain things more thoroughly which was good. The good news is that Charmaine and the baby are both healthy and that the doctor thinks that it is still possible to deliver naturally despite the size of the baby. The disappointing news is that even after seeing the ultrasound he still believes that January 14th (instead of January 2nd) is the correct due date which means they will not induce labor until after that date.
We were offered an elective c-section because with the baby's head not engaged and the size shown by the ultrasound its likely that we'll end up with a c-section even if Charmaine goes into natural labour. As we posted before this is not what we want. Charmaine and I both feel that the right thing for us is to wait it out and hopefully go into labour naturally. If a c-section becomes necessary at that point then at least we tried. We're disappointed in having to continue waiting but as long as Charmaine and the baby are both healthy there is no reason hurry things up.
Charmaine's blood has returned to normal with the bed rest so as long as its still good in the morning she'll be able to come home. She'll likely remain on bed rest until the baby arrives (one way or another).
Also note: Visitors to the maternity ward are restricted to healthy adults (no colds, flus, etc.) due to increased risk of RSV. No children or teenagers are permitted at this time.
